There are two different types of violence that are found in literature: violence that characters cause to each other or themselves, and violence that the author introduces in order to further plot. Both of these types of violence can be seen in the book, The Hunger Games. The first type is the main basis of the novel, where the characters try to kill each other. This type of violence develops relationships between characters, and can be symbolic of other things. The second type of violence in The Hunger Games is when Katniss is burned by the forest fire. The purpose of this type of violence is just to provide conflict and advance the plot of the novel.
