· Son of Poseidon and Aethra
· Born in Athens
· He told his father that if he succeeded, he would return with a whit sail
· Went to kill the Minotaur in Crete
· When he arrived, King Minos' daughter, Ariadne, fell in love with Theseus
· She gave him a ball of string so he could get back out of the labyrinth
· Theseus entered the labyrinth, and killed the minotaur
· He used the string to get back out, and escaped with Ariadne
· Theseus forgot to put up a white sail, and upon thinking his son was dead, king Aegeus committed suicide
